'January will start the way December left - very cold and still quite dry,' said Andy Bodenham of the Met Office.
'And there is a possibility of snow, sleet and rain in some parts on Sunday, especially in the north of England. The next couple of days will remain quite cold. Some places will experience below-average temperatures.'
Mr Bodenham said the whole country saw in the New Year with sub-zero temperatures and in parts of Wales, Cumbria and elsewhere in the North the thermometer went as low as -4c. Daytime temperatures in England yesterday struggled to rise above 5c anywhere and had dropped below freezing almost everywhere by early evening. (Source: Daily Mail)
