A Word on 'Hedgehog Totem Animal'

The hedgehog's natural resistance to snake venom gives this small creature a healing attribute of great spiritual power - resurrection, restoring life after death, or preventing death. This natural immunity is due to a protein in the animal's muscular system – erinacin – that stops or prevents hemorrhaging and blocks the venom’s neurotoxins. Erinacin is extracted from the European hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) and used to create an antihemorrhagic factor. The generic name Echinacea is rooted in the Greek word echinos, meaning hedgehog. Shamans and other healers will find Hedgehog a potent totem or power animal when powerful healing is needed.
Though Hedgehog is a nocturnal animal, it is strongly connected to the energy and vitality of the sun in many Asian and Middle Eastern cultures. Animals of the night are associated with intuition, psychic ability, prophetic dreams and visions. At night, concepts and thoughts are cloaked in shadow, things are not altogether clear. Those creatures active time night possess the ability to see clearly what is hidden to others in the dark.

Hedgehogs have surprising stamina and energy - they can run about 4.5 miles per hour, and are particularly adept at climbing steep walls, trees, and fences. They are even capable of swimming. This stamina is further evidence of powerful healing and life force energies in this totem.
