It just gets wetter: Rain-drenched Britain braced for more flooding today as downpours close roads and bring rivers to bursting point

The country is bracing itself for yet more flooding today as the torrential downpours continue. Seven flood warnings and 26 flood alerts are in place in England with the Environment Agency likely to add more in the coming hours. The summer washout looks set to continue until at least Thursday this week with the threat of heavier, more prolonged rain on Thursday, forecasters said. River levels are already teetering close to bursting point. Pulses of heavy rain and showers are expected to hit most parts of the UK throughout today with some of the worst-hit areas being hit by up to 60mm of rainfall, according to forecasters. The Met Office has issued an amber warning of rain for the Midlands, while yellow warnings are in place in south west England, north west England and east Scotland...read more>>>..
