Mystic Hearth: Few Spirit Animals have figured in the spiritual lore of so many cultures as the Butterfly. In most of the myths surrounding these colorful creatures, they are thought to have been the souls of the departed still lingering amongst the living. And while some of these legends held that it was the ultimate sign of a joyous crossing over, other traditions believed that their forms contained the souls of those who had died, but whom were waiting entrance to purgatory prior to then finally moving on to their ultimate destination.
