How much sugar is in your kid's energy drink? The full shocking facts

Daily Mirror: A charity says some contain more than 20 teaspoons of sugar and is calling for energy drinks to be banned for under-16s. The charity tested 197 energy drinks and found that 78% would receive a “red” warning label for sugars per serving. The worst offender was Rockstar Punched Energy and Guava Tropical flavour with 20 teaspoons of sugar per 500ml can. Rockstar, which features American extreme sports stars on their website, took the top three spots on the list of worst offenders.

The World Health Organisation says adults should have no more than 12 teaspoons of sugar a day but children should have fewer than six. This means than many drinks are three times their recommended daily intake.

Last year the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (Nice) issued new draft guidance saying that even people of a normal weight should be urged to avoid sugar sweetened drinks including fizzy drinks, sports drinks, squashes and any other drinks that contain added sugar...read more>>>...
