Links Between Conspiracy, Narcissism and Self Esteem (Whatever!)

Over the course of three online-based studies, researchers at the University of Kent showed strong links between the belief in conspiracy theories and these psychological traits.

The results showed that those people who rated highly on the narcissism scale and who had low self-esteem were more likely to be conspiracy believers.

However, while low self-esteem, narcissism and belief in conspiracies are strongly linked, it is not clear that one - or a combination - causes the other. But it hints at an interesting new angle to the world of conspiracy and those who reinforce belief. (Daily Mail Bullshit)

OPINION: Well we had a real laugh over this rather defamatory article written in today's Daily Mail alongside the Antarctica UFO story. It is seen, to us anyway, as a distraction from a rather uncomfortable new's story. The defamatory claim here is that anyone into conspiracy theories has low esteem and is also narcissistic. Rather bold of Daily Mail to say the least.

We at A Light In The Darkness are conspiracy theory lovers but have NO low self esteem and have NO narcissistic traits, as far as we know ... this is the classic bullshit distraction story that the Daily Mail is famous for! In our opinion this is a rather bold and outlandish statement, and deemed a way of distracting people from a new's story with a 'if you believe this conspiracy theory then you are narcissistic and have low self esteem' ....  tut, tut Daily Mail. Whatever!
