It was a vast underground network comprising of interlocking tunnels
There were buildings and places that one time must have houses tens of thousands of humans
Each and every chamber was interconnected with canal systems
The water was still fresh and the system functional ….
They gleaned that the water served as battery and circuit boards for the entire network
They were unable to determine the original builders of these complexes …
But they could tell by several clues that many races had resided in these places
And now they appeared to be empty … they were eerily deserted
Yet, the light and the power still continued to be up and running ….
They had spent several weeks now exploring the network, yet they had barely scratched the surface
Their latest discovery was a vast underground lake with strange green waters …
Its expanse seemed to stretched as far as they could perceive it …
And above its subterranean expanse was a plasma shield ….
They wondered what lay beyond the shield and what the purpose of the lake was ….
For it was clearly created by an ancient technology …
They noticed too the numerous stargate portals that were located throughout the complexes
Their circular stone architecture was unmistakeable
They ignored them for now … for the were not yet ready to explore what was beyond this kingdom
They were in truth in awe of the builders of these places …
And it was no surprise to them that whoever the builders were … they would have had the stature of giants
For many of the doors and the openings towered above them …
So much of the technology stood high above their heads …..
Yet there was also large swathes of technology and structures that were the same height as they
So they figured that there was a co-existence between races … at one time
And … they stood before one of these technology stations … and it seemed to have been recently activated
Though how long ago it had been used was too hard to tell …
Yet, it had a bouncing blue square on the screen … like it was awaiting some command
To them it appeared like the fore runner of technology they were familiar with …
Taking the plunge, he pressed the key that appeared to be the most likely to prompt the technology
Immediately it lit up … and there before them was the unmistakeable map of stargate locations …
It seemed they were meant to explore the network of local stargates that seemed to be located within the complex
From the screen it seemed the network of tunnels and complexes stretched for thousands of miles …
It seemed impossible to them … but not out of the question …
And as they prepared to activate the nearest stargate … it seemed they were not actually alone …
For they detected some kind of movement to their right ….
Unmistakeably … there was a presence there … watching them …
A distinctive pair of human eyes … then a face … that of a young girl ….
They watched the girl walk to a nearby area in the room and then promptly disappear …
Alarmed they walked slowly to where the girl had disappeared ….
They stepped across … and nothing happened … they remained where they were …
They realised the girl must have had some kind of technology that made her disappear
As they made their way back to the stargate … they detected movement behind them …
It was the girl rematerializing … along with numerous other children … who were all dressed them same …
They watched then … as many more children appeared in the chamber around them …
And realised the children had been there all along
They were shocked … and as they walked out of the chamber back into the tunnels ..
They discovered that the network was now filled with several hundred people … they were not children after all
They realised they were amongst the ancient race that lived in this underground complex!
