The Path of Qoph is the 29th path leading from Malkuth (Earth) to Netzach (Venus). Qoph means 'the back of the head'. This path represens one of the three ways for the Cabalist to rise above the purely material level of consciousness. It is path which has many lessons to teach on the limitations which exist on the material plane of experience; it also provides insights into how these limitations can be overcome. The Path of Qoph is concerned with the real limitations which lie within us --- the problems of perception & illusion; of symbols and the reality behind them. Traditionally the 29th path has come to express ideas of illusion & delusion; of dream, fantasy & hallucination.The approach to the Path of Qoph involves the senses completely in its workings. Through robes, incense, and all the other paraphernalia of ritual. Through poetry, music, dance and art; through eroticism and every kind pf physical experience. Basically, the means is not important so long as it floods the senses, and through them, the emotions with a sense of the presence of something greater than the merely material. This approach appears in most religious traditions as well as the ascetic approach associated with this path. The ascetic approach being workings that turn attention away from the senses & the body and focus on a higher level of awareness.
