Madeleine McCann's parents refuse to lose hope as police investigation comes to an end

John McCann revealed brother Gerry and his wife Kate feared comments by the Portuguese justice minister this week could mean that the police will no longer look for her. John, who also revealed the £1.2million Madeleine Fund is dwindling, said: "They want to be able to concentrate on searching for Madeleine instead of defending themselves from a false accusation."

Spokesman Clarence Mitchell said lawyers were deciding on a response but added: "If the case is shelved then we ask that Gerry and Kate have their arguidos status lifted first. We also ask that our detectives have access to police files on the case."
