Sydney got the New Year party ball rolling as the city exploded in a spectacular celebration of fireworks with not one but two dazzling displays. Australia's largest city hosted its annual family fireworks display at 9pm, three hours before the official celebrations took place. But once the clock struck midnight, the city exploded in a second even more spectacular display of pyrotechnics lasting several minutes. Sydney's midnight display, which are considered more grandiose, took place at 1pm British time as fireworks were fired from six barges on the harbour, seven skyscrapers and from the iconic arch of the Harbour Bridge.
