15th June 2007: A 69-year-old German named Karl Kleine-Brockhoff has disappeared on the Algarve coast in Portugal. His family had feared a heart attack, but now police suspect he may have been kidnapped. Spiegel International Online:
He went for a walk on Saturday, and simply disappeared. Karl Kleine-Brockhoff was vacationing in Portugal with his wife on the southern Algarve coast, where they were staying with another couple in the village of Casa Branca. Last Saturday, the 69-year-old German, who was reportedly in a good mood, told the others he would walk the 7 kilometers (4.3 miles) to a festival in the neighbouring village of Alcoutim. His wife and friends decided to travel the stretch by car, and said they would meet him in Alcoutim. Kleine-Brockhoff, a passionate hiker and in good health, didn't set off for Alcoutim along the main paved road but on a longer trail through a hilly, semi-desert landscape of cacti and dry creekbeds. The others waited for him in Alcoutim, but he never showed up. Kleine-Brockhoff was wearing short pants, a blue shirt, a sun hat, and simple running shoes rather than hiking shoes. Most importantly, he had no water with him. "We suspected he had injured himself or had a heart attack, maybe because he'd underestimated the hills and the Mediterranean heat," said his son Thomas, a Washington DC-based correspondent for the weekly newspaper Die Zeit, who flew to Portugal as soon as he learned about his missing father. The Republican National Guard has combed the region systematically and searched every square foot using sniffer dogs and an infrared-equipped helicopter from Spain. The other explanation -- that the retired Kleine-Brockhoff disappeared on purpose, to start a new life -- has been rejected by his son. "A hike to another town through a semi-desert -- that's how you start a new life?" he asks. He said his father had no credit card, no ID card and no driver's license. He was, however, carrying €500 -- but only because he was afraid of burglars and never left cash in hotel rooms. How does a 69-year-old man disappear in Portugal? It's a question Thomas Kleine-Brockhoff keeps asking himself. No kidnappers have contacted the family. "For me, as a son," he says, "I have to assume he's still lying somewhere injured -- and the clock is ticking because of the heat and the lack of water."
This isn't new information I know. Many reading are likely to be familiar with the case of this disappearance. I've been hearing reference to it over the last week, and I was provided this link a few days ago. I've been intending to contemplate this case to determine what I can of it.
My initial intuit has been to establish a link with the disappearance of Madeleine McCann -- if there is any. And also to try to make sense in my own mind how a 69 year old man could just walk out of his dwellings, go for a walk and then just disappear:

The first impression is sense that health is not an issue with his disappearance. There's no indication that he's suffered any accident or misfortune. There is an insight here that he made decisions under his own steam; by his own choice. There were financial matters at hand with the gentleman requiring resolution, but it is not clear whether this is a factor in his disappearance. The chariot image suggests he had something hidden or not to be revealed in his life. This links with the Justice image ... in some way he may have lead a double life. I get impressions of dentistry ... for some reason...
...also... I am not convinced he actually headed in the direction outlined in the news report. A look at his photograph reveals to me a fear or concern lying just below the surface. Something which would play its part in shaping his life. I get the sense that a deliberate disappearance ... is perhaps nearer to the truth than him falling pray to the terrain.

The appearance of the Death imagery does not indicate a physical death. It is a much cliched image ... in this instance it is the ending of an old chapter. Something hidden which is necessary to keep hidden. A past this gentleman is not proud of returning to haunt him in some way. Old ghosts unable to stay buried. There is NO discernible link with Madeleine McCann. No indications of a kidnapping. But all the hints are of something planned and undertaken. He is both the Maker of Staves & the Maker of Spheres. He planned and he executed some plan. But where is he and why? This I cannot determine from here. He appears to be a very clever and artistic gentleman with numerous interests and connections.
