Deadly Storm now approaches New ZealAnd

The massive storm that has claimed a number of lives in New South Wales is now moving towards New Zealand. Philip Duncan at our weather centre says we are in for some heavy rain and gale force winds as a result of the system.

The low currently near Sydney is expected to deepen as it heads east across the Tasman Sea, and is expected to move across the North Island on Monday morning.

But Mr Duncan says there is some good news: while heavy rain is expected in Northland, Coromandel, and Eastern Bay of Plenty, it will bring relief to drought-stricken famers in Hawke's Bay.

Mr Duncan warns the storm at the moment has all the ingredients that can create conditions extreme enough to cause damage.
