Moon & Venus: Lunar Occultation

The Moon and Venus came closer and formed a pair in a relatively rare celestial phenomenon, much to the delight of astronomers and stargazers.

"As the stargazers focused their eyes on the heavenly pair Venus suddenly disappeared. Actually, the Moon came directly between Venus and the Earth. This phenomenon is known as lunar occultation. Astronomy experts say though the occultation is not a rarest of the rare events ... it is beautiful nonetheless. Elaborating on the phenomenon, a lunar occultation happens when a celestial body appears to have moved behind the moon. Such events happen often but in most cases the star being occulted may be very faint. When bright stars or planets like Venus are occulted by the Moon the event can be seen with the naked eyes. Venus reappeared later from behind the Moon. It was seen at the outer edge of the crescent moon. Both the bright objects were seemingly close to each other and the Moon was seen approaching Venus as the evening progressed." (Gulf Times)
