Lawyer's Neglect Case Is Thrown Out

A solicitor's bid to bring a private prosecution against Kate and Gerry McCann was thrown out by a court yesterday. Anthony Bennett, 60, accused them of neglecting Madeleine and their two-year-old twins Sean and Amelie by leaving them alone in their holiday apartment on the evening of May 3.

But a district judge court ruled that a British court could not have jurisdiction over something that happened in Portugal. After the brief hearing at Loughborough magistrates court, father of two Mr Bennett said: "If this concentrates people's minds on whether it is ever acceptable to leave children alone I will have achieved what I set out to."

Mr Bennett, from Chippingfield, Hertfordshire, had previously failed in a bid to bring a private prosecution against Michael Barrymore over alleged drugs offences. (Daily Mail)
