Plunging Temperatures After Flash Floods

Roads and railways brought to a standstill by flash floods are expected to be hit by more problems today with plunging temperatures causing perilous travelling conditions. (Sky News 12th January 2008)

Most regions would see a cold and icy start to the day, weather forecaster Julian Mayes said.

Motorists had been warned overnight of freezing roads.

More rain was expected this evening, and mild, unsettled weather was forecast for the coming week, Mr Mayes said. More than 30mm of rain fell in parts of western England and the Midlands on Friday. Surface water gushed into homes and offices and motorists were left stranded in their cars. Many suffered motorway closures on the M5 and train diversions on the Great Western railway.

Among the worst hit areas were Bristol, Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and Somerset.
