Firefighters were today tackling a major blaze on historic Fleetwood Pier. The attraction was for many years “the jewel in Fleetwood’s crown” although resort residents said it was in disrepair and boarded up before the fire.A spokeswoman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “Fleetwood Pier is alight. It is a serious incident. There are 10 fire engines, plus a major incident support unit, a mobile fire station and two aerial ladder platforms.”
The fire service was called to the blaze at 4.30am and four hours later were still tackling the flames.
