A Quick Word on 'Meditation'

The word "meditation" can be very daunting to many people. They believe that there has to be some 'trick' to it and only certain people will be able to accomplish a successful meditation session. They imagine a person sitting cross-legged, surrounded by enormous silk pillows and burning incense and uttering "OM" over and over again.

This scenario can be true for some people, but for the most part, we are all very busy and do not have the time for silk pillows and incense. The journey toward self-fulfillment and self-improvement does not need to be painful or time-consuming.

Every single person meditates whether they realise it or not. Reflecting inward, thinking about the day you just experienced or just staring at the wall are all instances of meditation. It does not have to be a 1970's zen-type experience.

Traditionally meditation is used for spiritual growth. More recently, however, meditation has become a valuable tool for finding a peaceful oasis of relaxation and stress relief in a demanding, fast-paced world. (Meditate With Me)
