When you are 'on top of life' every thing seems to go right. You establish a positive flow and everything you touch appears to go right. It suddenly arrives and you are dubious that its going to last indefinitely, so you permit doubt to set in ... and next thing you know everything grinds to a halt, and it feels like that wonderful positive feeling had been nothing more than a dream.
Most of us have been there at some point in our life. A run of good fortune arrives and then disappears just as inexplicably as it had arrived. We then find the doldrums for the next few weeks, and seemingly all that good fortune was to no avail.
Its seemingly one of those things that we have no control over. Like the big wave that arrives that we ride for all its worth only to be swamped by crashing seas all around us. We have to brush ourselves down, and stand waiting for the next big wave to arrive.
Some of us only get one big wave and a period of euphoria that goes with it. Others get several in their lives ... and the lucky few seem to ride that big wave all through the significant part of their lives.
But what is behind these .on top of life' moments? What is the mechanism and is it something that can be controlled, or better still, manufactured at will? Over the coming weeks we will attempt to explore this mental phenomenon and try to explain what causes these strange euphoric highs when we are that positive, everything goes right in our lives.
