GP co-payment would mean the end of Medicare

Sydney Morning Herald: If the changes to Australia's health system being signalled by the Abbott government are enacted, Medicare will exist in name only. Thirty years ago this month Medicare was established on the principle that all Australians should have equal access to healthcare. Universal healthcare is a cornerstone of our social safety net and central to the commitment we have for each other's health and welfare.

When Medicare was introduced Australia didn't have a universal healthcare system. Bob Hawke as prime minister warned that without it 2 million people ''faced potential financial ruin in the event of major illness''.

Leaving aside the fact that $6 is not an insignificant amount of money as the Health Minister argues, for a lot of Australians, introducing a fee to visit your GP will do much more than just send a ''price signal'' to the market. It will restrict their access to GPs - in fact that is exactly what the measure is designed to do.

GPs are actually the cheapest end of the health system. They are experts at diagnosis and it is their job to pick up on potential health problems in their infancy. If this does not happen and people end up at the expensive end of the system - hospitals - there won't be any actual savings.

The most recent statistics on bulk billing show the rate is 82 per cent - the highest ever. This is particularly important for older people, families with children and the more vulnerable of our population.

Charlotte Dawson found dead at her Sydney home at the age of 47

Daily Mail: Charlotte Dawson has been found dead at the age of 47. The New Zealand-born former model and television presenter, who had long been suffering from depression, was found at her Woolloomooloo home on Saturday morning. Police confirmed to the MailOnline that a 47-year-old woman was discovered in a unit in the upmarket area. In a statement Kings Cross police said there were no 'suspicious circumstances' surrounding her death, and police investigations are continuing.

S.O.T.T:The history of our planet is far more complex than most people would dare to imagine. According to the commonly accepted version of history that is taught in high schools and colleges all over the United States, ancient man was a very simple creature with extremely limited knowledge. Reptilian humanoid startles bikers in the Sonoran Desert, Arizona

S.O.T.T: A group of three mountain bikers reportedly saw a reptilian humanoid last week in the middle of a trail located in the Sonoran desert. The bicyclists were riding the 24 Hours in the Old Pueblo race course, a 17 mile trail, when they spotted the creature.

"It's a tough one," said G. Johnson, 34, a self-described businessperson from Tucson. "It is a 24 hour track, so you better come prepared with more than enough food and water. There are times you just wanna go back and wish you had never got there in the first place. But when you see what nature has to offer you here...well, those regrets dissipate rather quickly."

Johnson states that he and two other friends were half way into the track when something "terrifying" made the group consider cancelling the ride.

"We had been riding for about... I don't know maybe nine hours, taking breaks every now and then. Then Michael says he needs to stop for a minute. We are waiting for him to finish when all of a sudden we see this long figure walking across the trail. A State Of Mind?

It's always invigorating being out in nature, even at 12.30 am at night. There is something so magical about feeling the cool night breeze on your face; making its invisible passage through your lungs. Tonight it was so essential. Standing at the front of the house; alone beneath the trees and the stars with the cool night air blowing. It reminded me briefly of old times and forgotten melodies. A soother for a troubled soul tonight.

Since returning home, from the hospital ward,  five weeks ago, my sub-conscious has been working overtime bringing fears to the conscious mind. It has not been easy. Recurrent panic attacks and spates of tension, sheer panic even. Tonight is one of those moments. Somehow, being outside even for a moment, has helped in its own way. A few breaths of that night air appears to have calmed me. Hence, the real need to turn to the creative arts, to become positive and turn my mind away from the tension and panic which occupies part of me at this time.

A healing earlier and the digestion of a few drops of Dragon's Blood appears to be the cause of this latest episode. Today had been such a good day, that was until storm clouds began to brew ... and tension descended around my temples once more. My sinuses and ear passages having playing up again today. Full bore mucus and ear pressure. Something that has plagued me since mid October 2013. It just won't go away. The main source of my terror ... I need fresh air blowing through the room I reside in ... if I don't then the anxiety builds and I begin to panic. It commences across the chest and the tension gets real bad. It is so far proving to be the hardest mountain to climb. A journey I have to go alone ...

A sip on some warming Lemon tea as I try to overcome the chill that encompasses me. I've had the shivers since the healing. I struggle now to get warm. I've tried lying in bed to sleep. Twice. To no avail. Too much tension circulates. And it is fear based reaction I know. But what is the cause ... that is this the scary part. I cannot trace the reason behind this constant terror ...

Now its a little over 1.00 am and I don't feel much better than when the episode began around 11 pm? My heart beat is better, I guess. But I'm still experiencing this emotional pain which is boarding on blind terror at this point - I've switched off the portable fan as it is too cool in the room. The air in the room is still, and it really won't be long until I can't stand the stillness.

Maybe this is the effects of the medication I've been taking? I already ceased one repeat antibiotic due to its side effects matching my experiences. I've another with one day left to take. Then its the Oxycontin to finish. I ceased the Endone last week ... I've few chemical concoctions to blame. Then I'm left with the conclusion it is my frame of mind. Which is not good. I was fine prior to my hospital nightmare which commenced mid October 2013. I was fine. None of this terror. I slept so well at night. None of these tensions and night vigils. So ... what has happened since then?  

I'm a long, long way away from being 'back to my self'. I'm beginning to wonder if I will ever return. I'm worried this now the way that I now will always be. It's taking too long ... will it ever change?

A Light In The Darkness 2014

Its been a lean and quiet patch here on a Light In The Darkness since Mid-October 2013. Completely out of character for a usually thriving blog. But I'm just one person, and that one person has been so floored by a serious setback ... it understandably goes quiet on here. I've been really set back, and am only now just finding my feet again. 

I can only apologise to my most loyal visitors and thank you for patience. For the new visitors, explore the blog categories ... there are well over 20,000 entries spanning back to 2006.

2014 is going to see A Light In The Darkness evolving as a personal magick journal. With more and more of my own articles appearing. There will still be plenty of reference and research materials from Daily Om, Sign Of The Times, David Icke etc ... that isn't going to change. I just want to let visitors learn more about me and my 'inner workings' ... the issue in the past has been finding the time to write regular articles. Hence why A Light In The Darkness evolved into what it became ... more for my own personal use at the start ... then like a seed it grew and grew until it became the site that it is with over 20,000 - 25,000 world wide visitors on a daily basis at one time. I'm endeavouring to build it back up again. Some of the sensitive and special features are planned to return in the near future (Daily Merlin Insights etc) ... so bear with me. Mediumship & The Effect Of Client High Expectations

Mediumship connections to 'the other side' are like a very finite and delicate fibre at the best of times. They rely on the concentration and confidence of the Medium. As a Medium there is an incredible responsibility on your shoulders to get the connection right. To provide the correct information to your client and ensure you totally validate the person you are ' bringing through' from the other side. From personal experience, most connections have been correctly validated, giving comfort and relief to my clients. 

However, there has been one instance lately where the connection was hampered by a client's high expectations and urgency to hear from his recently departed loved one. He had a preconceived idea of what was going to be said, and was seeking absolute personal details from a soul who had only passed in the last couple of months. 

This put untold pressure on me as the Medium. Not only had I to make a connection with a newly deceased soul, but I also needed to provide absolute proof to satisfy my client's requirements. This is usually a no-no type of reading. 

Yes, I was able to connect with his loved one, confirmed what she passed from. I was able to verify the relationship between the two of them, with some personal details. However, my client went away feeling disappointed as it had not been the dynamic and powerful connection he was seeking. Without that high expectation on his part, I may well have reached the personal information he was seeking. 

It may well have been too soon to talk to the deceased soul. His expectations undoubtedly contributed to additional pressure on my shoulders. I wasn't personally disappointed for in truth I had made the connection and I did bring her through. I just hope next time he seeks to connect, he clears his mind of what he expects and values what does come through. ---- Matthew James    

Discovery of quantum vibrations inside brain neurons supports controversial theory of consciousness

S.O.T.T: The recent discovery of quantum vibrations inside neurons in the brain supports a controversial theory of consciousness. If correct, it might lead to new treatments for many different conditions, it is claimed in a new review of the evidence by Hameroff and Penrose (2013). The theory - which implies the brain is connected to the universe at a quantum level - was first proposed in the 1990s, but it suffered extensive criticism.

One major point against it was that the brain was thought to be too "warm, wet and noisy" for coherent quantum processes. Recent evidence, though, from researchers led by Anirban Bandyopadhyay has found the proposed quantum vibrations inside microtubules within brain neurons. These microtubules are components of cell scaffolding - they help provide our cells with their structure - that are around 25µm in length.

Unsealed: Alien Files... seriously?

S.O.T.T: While searching for something interesting to watch, I stumbled across a program called Unsealed: Alien Files and my only comment is, "Seriously?"
This is one of the reasons that we have trouble getting science and journalism to take UFO reports seriously. It is one of the reasons that so many people have so little time for UFOs or who believe those seeing UFOs are deluded. This program, in the guise of a documentary, wasfilled with every half-baked idea, every conspiracy theory associated with UFOs, and every lousy piece of evidence available. It was horrendous. What surprised me was that some very respectable people... Nick Pope and John Greenwald to name but two... were on it. In fact, the program that featured Pope and the UK's investigation of UFOs made some sense and provided some interesting evidence. Elaborate crop circle discovered on Californian farm

S.O.T.T: Mulder no longer has to convince Scully - the truth may have invaded the Salinas Valley. Alien theorists and curious onlookers alike flocked to Chualar today after a video hit YouTube this morning depicting what looks like an extraterrestrial imprint in a field near just off Chualar Canyon Road.

Putting Yourself First

Daily Om: We have all heard the instructions of an airline attendant reminding us to put on our own oxygen mask before we help anyone else with theirs. This advice is often cited as a metaphor for self-care because it so accurately expresses why it is important. It seems to say, ironically, that if you can’t take care of yourself for yourself, do it for others. Few situations in our daily lives mimic the wake-up call of an airplane emergency, so it’s easy to keep putting self-care off—easy, that is, until we get sick, overwhelmed, or exhausted, and suddenly don’t have the energy to care for the people who count on us. That’s when we realize we haven’t been getting the oxygen we need to sustain ourselves. We begin to understand that taking care of ourselves is neither selfish nor indulgent; it’s just plain practical. Putting yourself first means that it may be necessary to say no to someone else in order to say yes to yourself. A Strange Way

I've had plenty of thinking time. Practising my art had to fall by the wayside. But I see it as a strengthening process. Not the best way I admit but the way which had been chosen for me by powers much greater than my own. So many postponements of events and private bookings though. I've been in tears on numerous occasions - the outpouring of people's healing, caring and concern have had the same effect.

People's well wishes and actions on Facebook have been amazing. So amazing I've had to understand its been my time to accept back what I have been so readily giving over the last 20 plus years. I'm here for other people and get so much out of helping them through their predicaments. The love and healing so readily by people has been nothing short of incredible. Like I voiced earlier, there have been plenty of tears over this.

I will be returning back into my counselling and intuitive profession shortly. Certainly by March 2014, I will be back in the comfort of what I do best.

So please watch this space everyone.

Finally!

Happy New Year everyone! I've been unable to service A LIGHT IN THE DARKNESS as I once did and I must apologise here and now for that. There's been too few posts over the last few months and the mojo has sadly gone from a once potent place. Those of you who me personally, or follow me on Facebook know why.

My strength is returning and elements are coming back which will rectify this upsetting scenario.
