Taliban executed IVF cash dad

The Sun Headline; says: A British bodyguard working in Afghanistan to fund his wife’s IVF treatment was executed as US special forces arrived to rescue him, an inquest heard yesterday. David Addison, 46, was moments from being saved when his Taliban kidnappers cut his throat.

His body was found minutes later when US troops stormed the compound where he had been held for 12 days. Former soldier David had taken a year-long job providing security for workers involved in road-building. The lucrative work would have helped pay for IVF treatment for him and his wife Karen, 43, of Warminster, Wilts, who have a three-year-old daughter.

Karen sat through the inquest at Trowbridge, Wilts, which was told David was two months into the job when he was kidnapped in August 2005. His car was ambushed by a dozen militants between Kandahar and Herat. After the kidnap David was kept tied up in a remote mountain camp until his body was found by his US rescuers.

David’s father-in-law Paul Pilkington said: “David wanted to stay there to pay for fertility treatment for his wife. It has been a terrible tragedy for the family.”

Verdict: Unlawful killing
