The new push to find the lost four-year-old comes after numerous recent appeals by Kate and Gerry generated fresh leads. The pair, both 39-year-old doctors, begged for information in a postal blitz on 11,500 homes and businesses in Morocco.
Investigators from the Metodo 3 agency hired by the locals and tourists to look out for Maddie. There have been a string of possible sightings in the country.
The most significant came in September when doctor Naouhal Malhi claimed she saw Maddie being bundled into a taxi in Fnideq. Mrs Malhi tried to clamber into the cab – heading to the village of Housima. But a woman holding the girl would not let her in. The middle-aged woman, from the Berber ethnic minority, would have paid £180 for the taxi trip – a month’s wage for most Moroccans. And she paid for every seat in the cab so the driver would not pick up anyone else.
