Friends of Madeleine McCann’s parents have confronted prime suspect Robert Murat in a dramatic two-hour showdown. Brit Murat, 33, insists he was at his mum’s home, 150 yards away. The three pals — who were holidaying with the McCanns in Praia da Luz in May — flew back from the UK to Portugal to contradict Murat’s statements in front of police in Portimao on Wednesday.
A police source said: “Because there was a disagreement between witnesses and suspect, it is normal in Portugal for the two sides to be brought together to try and find the truth.” The outcome of the meeting is not known. But Murat — quizzed this week over “suspicious” emails — remains an arguido, the Portuguese legal term for a suspect.

Daily Express says: THE prime suspect over the kidnapping of Madeleine McCann has had a face-to-face showdown with three Britons who could shatter his alibi. Robert Murat was confronted by three friends of the missing four-year-old’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, during interrogation at police headquarters in Portimao. Doctors Russell O’Brien and Fiona Payne, with another friend Rachael Oldfield, flew to Portugal to contradict Murat’s claim to have been at home on the night Madeleine disappeared 71 days ago.
They have told police that they saw British expatriate Murat, 33, close to the McCanns’ ground-floor apartment at the Ocean Club complex in Praia da Luz on the Algarve. All four attended the headquarters of the policia judiciara on Wednesday and spent two hours in a room with detectives and Murat’s solicitor giving their differing versions of events on the night of May 3. Hauling a suspect before witnesses who challenge an alibi, or whose statements contradict that of the “arguido” or official suspect, is a common legal manoeuvre by police in Portugal.
It is not yet known what the outcome of the showdown was, but Murat underwent a further six hours of questioning after the Britons left. Former estate agent Murat was arrested eleven days after Madeleine was snatched as she slept in the family’s apartment while her parents dined with friends nearby.
Mrs Oldfield, 36, from London, with Dr O’Brien, from Exeter, and Dr Payne, from Leicester, were among a group of friends with whom the McCanns, from Rothley, Leicestershire, were on holiday at the resort. They were all dining at a tapas restaurant at the Mark Warner-run resort 100 yards from the apartment where Madeleine and her younger twin brother and sister were sleeping. The apartment was checked regularly by the McCanns and their friends throughout the evening.

There is confusion here. Which version of events is the one correct; the one to believe. Is it a simple case of one being correct and the other a fabrication? Or are they both fabrications. What we have here is a mystery. More intrigue. The image of the Eight of Pentacles indicates one person viewing the actions of another through a telescope. Behind them a building in ruins. The situation has the potential to spell ruination for one and not the other. In this instance I favour the statement made by 'the man in the phone' because one of the three 'friends' I do not trust.
There is insinuation to hide event which took place during that night. The Nine of Swords betrays the desperation of one. Because one is much closer to the McCanns than is publically known. In an earlier insight there was a suggestion that one who would come into the public eye would be one to suspect . I sense one not to be trusted. The Nine of Swords has crossed swords in the image as well as a number of accusatory points raised in the direction of one who can be established as the innocent in this. But for one of the three most surely the jaws of the Panther move close and the searing heat of the flames of Mars should affect their judgement. This is something seemingly key to it all. But which way is the Pied Piper going to take this? Four persons to walk away and then a new story to surface. Or is one going to be raised to the pedestal of the accused. But which one; who would this be? One of the three has resonances of guilt from them ... but who and why?
The Eight of Swords reversed relates to the acquired pace of the snail; here we have a situation that can be 'solved' very quickly if someone with the inkling took that decision. BUt the slow pace favours that which is being created behind the scenes. This story appears again to be another smokescreen; another dose of chickenfeed because there is something key here not being divulged to the general public. A symbolic black cat represents the crossing of the path by one of the three. One who has closer links to it all than has been revealed.
