Robert Murat, the chief suspect in the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, could be questioned by police next week, Sky sources have learned. The news comes days after three friends of the McCann family were allowed to grill the British expatriate in a five-hour session. He was also grilled by three friends of the McCanns at a Portuguese police station to see if his alibi stood up. Fiona Payne, Russell O'Brien and Rachael Oldfield reportedly claimed they had seen Murat near the holiday villa shortly after Madeleine disappeared.
He has insisted that he had an early night and had not left his mother's house. Murat has repeatedly said that he played no part in Madeleine's disappearance.
Police sources have said that the investigation into the missing four-year-old is at a "critical" stage but have not elaborated on what that means.
Why? Why are they insisting on hassling Robert Murat? Because his statement is outnumbered three-to-one? Because his statement contradicts what the three friends are saying? The three friends should be grilled in the same way by Robert Murat to check out their alibis! It's time to move on Mr Pied Piper from this situation. We are all now intrigued to learn why the investigation is at a critical stage ...?
