'The Relationship Had Broken Down'

Sky News Headline; says: 'An open letter released on the club's website, Chelseafc.com, said: "Jose did not resign and was not sacked."The club said there had been a "breakdown" in the relationship between the club and manager, which had "started to impact on the performance of the team." The statement also paid tribute to the "immense contribution [Mourinho] has made to the club and to English football."

A sizeable gathering of Chelsea supporters held an organised demonstration this evening at the club's ground, Stamford Bridge, in south west London behind a banner which read: "Jose Mourinho - Simply The Best." Waving club flags and wearing T-shirts showing his face they sang "bring back the special one" and chanted Mourinho's name.

Earlier, the club announced the joint-team of Director of football Avram Grant and assistant manager Steve Clarke as the men to take charge of the team after Mourinho left the club by "mutual consent". A statement was made on the club's website but it did not say whether the positions were permanent.
