The Rune Fehu

The Rune Fehu (Feoh) is the first rune of the Elder Futhark and literally means 'Cattle'. Back in the days of when the runes were used by Rune Masters, who would advise the people of the village in their rile as the Elder Mage of the village, cattle was very much the primary commodity so advising the cattle herders and owners of how their herds would fare in the coming winter months was an important insight.

The divination meaning is 'accruable wealth' and converts into this society as a means of indicating how much imaginary wealth someone has at their disposal, or equally how little. It is used to provide knowledge and advice on business deals, work changes and other aspects of modern life that can affect the ebb and flow of imaginary money in a bank account.

Thus, Fehu is a rune of power and control. The wealth that Fehu often indicates, can often lead to greed and to envy, two human vices which arouse social divisions and inflict damage. Thus Fehu represents the wealth and the material abundance which must be shared to last.

Fehu is also the rune of the fire, of the primal energy, of the strength and of the power. It is also the first movement, the primal impulse, what push forward. It is also the instinct of creation anchored in the depths of the human psyche.
