Residents Rescued After Flood Alert

Residents of a North Yorkshire town have been rescued from their homes after flash flooding. Fire services received more than 80 calls for help in Filey after the town centre was overwhelmed.All roads into the town have been closed and drivers in the area are being warned to be careful. North Yorkshire Police said 30 elderly people had been evacuated from flats in Filey after a roof collapsed. There were no casualties. Lifeboat crews have been deployed to rescue people and animals stranded by the floods. Barry Robson from Filey RNLI said the water was waist deep in places. Police said the waters are receding and they are hoping that all roads will be passable soon.

Meanwhile, weather forecasters are warning that there could be further heavy rain on the way across England and Wales later this week, leading to more flooding. Sky News weather presenter Isobel Lang said prolonged thundery showers were expected in the South East on Friday, which will move into the North East.
