100 Mph Storms To End Sunny Spell

THE Indian summer will finally be blown away at the end of next month by hurricane force winds. Gusts up to 100mph will batter the whole nation causing damage and disruption to transport, said a long-range forecaster. In scenes reminiscent of the storms chaos in January, heavy rainfall could also lead to widespread flooding. The severe weather is forecast for the very end of October after a month of largely bright, dry and mild conditions.

Piers Corbyn, from Weather Action, says a high-pressure system will be centred over Britain for much of the month, bringing clear October days and frosty nights – classic autumnal weather.

Severe gales will occur from October 7 to 9, but from October 26 he predicts “an extended period of major storms” to last until October 31. Mr Corbyn, whose forecasts are based on the theory that weather on Earth is driven by solar activity, said the storm period was being “further checked” but that he expected to be 90 per cent accurate.
