Kate McCann wants a new career in child welfare, it's been revealed today. Mrs McCann, an official suspect in the disappearance of her four-year-old daughter Madeleine, has told friends she no longer intends to return to her old job as a doctor.
Instead she wants to help other children - although she cannot contemplate working until she finds out the truth about what happened to Madeleine on 3 May.
Mrs McCann used to work two days a week but a close friend of the family said: "Kate doesn't want to go back to being a locum GP. She wants a new career in child welfare."
Friends have described Mrs McCann as a "fantastic" mother and they cannot believe the Portuguese police theory that she is involved in Madeleine's disappearance.
Since Madeleine vanished from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz, the McCanns have been involved in spearheading the world's largest hunt while launching an initiative to help parents if their children go missing on holiday.
It has been suggested that Mrs McCann is now best placed to help other parents and children who suffer such trauma. (Daily Mail)
