Golden Boots Wilkinson takes England to the Rugby World Cup final

England pulled off a stunning victory in the Rugby World Cup semi-final last night, thanks once again to the golden boot of Jonny Wilkinson.

The star fly-half scored a perfect drop goal just three minutes from the final whistle, securing England's place in the final next Saturday.

The nail-biting match was an intensely close-fought affair, which left players battered and bleeding. England took the lead with an astonishing try in the opening two minutes of the match, but the French quickly applied the pressure, and for most of the 80 minutes, Les Bleus were leading.

England only regained a narrow lead following a 75th-minute penalty, beautifully kicked home by Wilkinson. He secured the final result – 14-9 – just a couple of minutes later, from 30 yards out. (Daily Mail)
