Guard As Gerry Returns To Work

Sunday Express Headline; says: 'POLICE are poised to protect heart surgeon Gerry McCann when he makes an emotional return to work. Officers yesterday visited him at home to finalise security arrangements at the hospital where he is a consultant cardiologist and has been on unpaid leave since his daughter Madeleine vanished on May 3, just before her fourth birthday.

Mr McCann, 39, wants to start treating heart patients again, despite still being an official Portuguese police suspect over her disappearance. He has held several meetings with hospital bosses who have given him their full support throughout his five-month ordeal.

They now feel the time has come for him to make the return to work full-time despite concerns that patients might feel uncomfortable in view of his family tragedy.

Police who visited his home in Rothley, Leicestershire, discussed plans for security at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester, when he returns and reviewed present security measures for his family.
