Carbon Dioxide has a relative density of 1.5 and air 1.0; which makes Carbon Dioxide heavier than water, in fact it is a 'heavy gas'.
Indeed, if you were to fill a balloon up with Carbon Dioxide, walk to the top of a sky scraper and then release the balloon ... what would happen to the balloon? Would it go whizzing off up into the air? Or would it drop from the sky??? It's the latter. Carbon Dioxide is not a high atmosphere gas ....
