Apple insists the new Apple Watch cannot be used for secret surveillance

 Apple has moved quickly to insist that its latest wearable cannot be turned into a hidden listening device, after unveiling a conversation-recall tool that immediately raised privacy alarms. According to a report from Macworld, the Apple Watch Series 12, revealed at the Surprise and Shine event on Wednesday, brings relatively modest hardware updates but a notable software addition called Live Rewind.

Live Rewind is launched with a double-press of the Digital Crown and shows the previous 15 seconds of a conversation as text on the watch face. The capability is meant to help when a wearer misses a remark and cannot easily ask for it to be repeated. Its existence, however, implies the watch is continuously capturing nearby speech, often without others knowing.

Apple says users cannot secretly tap that audio stream. The company states that activation produces an unmistakable chime that cannot be turned off, along with a full-screen animation. Even the required double-press, Apple argues, makes the action visible to people nearby....<<<Read More>>>...
