This changed with Copernicus four hundred years ago and is undergoing further change with the findings of the Mars Global Surveyor showing evidence of previous fluvial activity on Mars, the Mars Odyssey finding ice crystals, the Mars Express with MARSIS technology exploring the Martian subsurface, the MER rovers, and the forthcoming Phoenix project in 2007.
