Necessity - The Rune NYD

Although you walk which way you will
The path shall still remain
And though you may yet err a while
The quest shall be the same
For as the river runs its course
through meadow, dale and dell
You may be blessed with your desire
Yet only time shall tell

The rune NYD has the literal meaning of 'need'. But this is in accordance with the common perception of need - the type of need caused by the absence or the scarcity of something. Nyd also encompasses the esoteric philosophical idea that the power to be released from the need is actually found within the need itself. Nyd calls for caution in action and the old adage 'know thyself' is very applicable to this rune. The need has to be seen as working constructively within the fibres of the wyrd (fate, destiny) web structure, not working against it. The energy of the need must be working for the preservation of the sacred geometry of the universe for the need to be provided.

Nyd in a casting warns that things must be permitted to proceed at their own pace. Patience will be required to let matters resolve themselves ... the outcome will always be mattered being sorted, but not necessarily the desired outcome.
